What I Have Learned This Week

I think the most important thing I have learned this week is to make sure I narrow my topic and not try to take too much on at one time. I met with my principal this week and we discussed my choice of topics for my action research project.  We decided that I would work on evaluating the effectiveness of a new program at my school designed to reduce the numbers of students who fail due to missing assignments. I brought up the fact that even though this program has been in place since the start of the school year, I still have students who are failing their academic classes due to missing work. I told her I was going to collect the sign in sheets from GCS and the failure reports for each six weeks to see if the students who attended GCS to make up their work were passing on their report cards. I also want to see if all the teachers are using this program. If they are not taking advantage of the program, what is the reason? I would also like to get the elective teacher's opinion of the program since students are being pulled from their classes to make-up the missing work. Should this program be done after school? The more I reflect on the project the bigger it gets. I want to make sure I keep the topic manageable and can provide accurate data back to my principal

  1. It looks like that you and I kind of went through a similar situation. I also was told that I need to not be so broad and narrow my topic. The only problem I have really is that I am truly passionate about finding a cure to this problem. This is exactly why I chose two action research topics so that I can have my main one, but still work on the other one as well. Good luck!
